A|r’s renovation strategy for the Community Music School Renovation and Addition optimizes internal spaces for private lessons and small performances while also enhancing key attributes of the historic structure. A glass volume addition with operable walls showcases a performance venue and entry lobby that actively engages the facility with the vibrant Elmwood Avenue community. A new, double-loaded corridor undulates through the building and provides a natural division between louder, larger spaces and smaller spaces intended for more quiet instruction and practice. Lastly, a newly introduced rooftop terrace provides sweeping views of the Elmwood Village and the City of Buffalo, providing the community with a platform to enjoy open-air musical performances and the dynamism of urban life.
