Our WorkCrane Library

Crane Library by Architectural Resources

Design Brief

Project Location: Buffalo, NY
Photographer: Kim Smith

Our team is collaborating with Buffalo and Erie County Public Libraries to modernize the library with new barrier-free amenities and updated reading and children’s spaces.

Phase one includes a new elevator, a reimagined entry sequence, and upgraded mechanical/HVAC systems. The second phase will upgrade interior spaces, increase technology availability, improve functionality, efficiency, and accessibility. Phase Three will focus on holistic upgrades to the building’s roof top amenities, including a patio space, garden, and establishing accessible routes for all patrons.

"People want to stay here whether it be to read a newspaper, have a study group, have a community meeting of sorts, said Mary Jean Jakubowski, director of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, [this project is] “really to bring this library to what I call the 21st century library."
