Completed in 1915, the St. Elizabeth Medical Campus served Utica, NY as a vital community asset for more than a century, as South Utica grew from a rural community into a thriving neighborhood.
Following a major consolidation and construction of a new hospital, the A|r team, in partnership with Fisher and Rupp Pfalzgraf, was tasked to develop a new vision for the 20+ acre campus that balanced adaptive reuse and new construction to meet the area’s housing and economic needs.
Informed by market analysis and community outreach, the plan reimagined the historic hospital as multi-unit housing, introduced new residential ownership opportunities across the site, and activated the Genesee Street frontage with context-sensitive retail to support a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood.
